Week in Bullets

Update: My coworker just sent me this link.  I’ve ALWAYS wanted a marching band at my wedding-and this just proves I’m not totally nuts for respecting Ole Miss football season while planning the wedding!

So 1 week ago right now I was a girlfriend, and now I’m a fiancee.  Wow.  It’s been a busy week hence no blogging (plus there’s something special about that last blog :) )-lots of phone calls (I keep loosing my voice!), e-mails, hugs, smiles, and so forth.  Not to mention that I spent all of Monday night into the wee hours of Tuesday morning I spent praying for some narcotics.  Apparently I caught a stomach bug and if you know me, you know that my stomach is already sensitive enough.  The boy thought I was already stressing about the wedding (which I kinda was, I mean, I’m waiting for the friggen SEC to finalize their d*amn schedule) and so I was kinda pleased to prove that I wasn’t in fact stressing until I was ill but rather ill.  However, that ended about 1am.  Anywho, here I am now w/ my list of some things I’ve learned this week:

1.) Friends who are on bedrest and in “only breathtaking labor” (HA!) rock b/c they send you great web sites along w/ plotting against dumb residents.

2.) It’s really really hard not to be THAT girl.  Therefore, we have a safe word that has been instituted both at home and work.

3.) Guest lists are Catholic-they reproduce by simply looking at them.

4.) I like sparkely things :)

5.) “Just enjoying” and not planning for the first few weeks is simply not in me–oh, I’m enjoying it all right.  But let’s face it, I’m a planner for God’s sake.

6.) Plantation homes are just that-homes-and therefore require some sort of other space for a reception.  By other I mean a tent, which is a no-go.  See #7.

7.) Be careful what you promise your father at age 14.  In my case, we had (2) weddings back-to-back (one I was in, one just attending) that were both outdoors and in both cases there was a lot of stress due to weather.  Poppy said “You can have anything you want as long as it’s inside”.  Me-”ok”.  Doh!  That said, I can’t really have “anything” i.e. my hanging drapes with uplighting ;)

8.) I still get a kick outta the pricing even though I do this everyday.  I mean seriously, $6,000 just so there’s a mansion in the background but you have to pay for the tent and everything else?  HAHAhhahahhahahahahhahahah

9.) I’m pretty lucky to be marrying into a family that I already love.

10.) My finace….there are no words.  But I won’t get sappy, not yet anyway.  I’ll just say that I LOVE the excel spreadsheet he’s created w/ “goal attendance”…a man after my own heart.

11.) My friends.  My dear dear friends.

I am so blessed.

I Said YES!

Filed under: Personal, The Boy — Allison @ 10:45 am on August 27, 2007 -

On Friday night, Aug. 24 The Boy asked me to marry him…and I said YES! :)

Ok, technically what I said was “OMG OMG OMG…SERIOUSLY?!  YES!” and then proceeded to hyperventilate and almost pass out.  What can I say, true Allie style :)

So, here’s what happened:

The boy and I have had a busy couple of weeks and he really wanted us to be able to relax this weekend.  This is not at all unlike the boy-he takes very good care of me when often I forget to do it for myself.  I had my suspicsions, but as you’ll see was thrown off the path several times.

The boy told me to leave by 5pm-I left at 4:30pm so I actually was running a little early.  J called and I met her and the Moo over at B&J since I had a few extra mins and I haven’t seem my little Moo is quite a while.  I began to wonder if she was in on it.  As it turns out, she wasn’t, but this was diversion #1.  I got home at 6 half expecting there to be flowers on the table, dinner cooking.  Instead The Boy was on the X-Box…..huh.  Ok……He proceeded to take me over towards our bedroom door which was closed and before I could ask why he told me to go in and pack a bag for overnight, he was taking me away.  He wouldn’t say where or what we were doing, but that whatever I packed would decided how we would spend our time.  He then said “well, you wanted me to take more control right?”  True enough, I just didn’t bank on the fact that that meant I would NOT be in control :)

So, of course I called J who actually didn’t have a clue.  Most of my fav. clothes were still in the wash from all the travel, but I managed to throw some stuff together.  I was told that the theme was “relaxation and romance”.

He had booked a room at the Hotel Palomar-a cute and trendy Kimpton botique property off of Embassy Row in Dupont Circle (can you tell I deal in hotels for a living? :) ).  The room was a “spa suite” where I was informed that at 11am the next day I would be receiving an in-room massage!  Woo HOO!

We decided to head out for dinner, stopping first at a shoe store b/c I’m me :) and then onto a little Thai place.  What I didn’t bank on was that it would be sweltering hot outside, or that the Thai place I chose would not have any working AC.

Afterwards we headed back to the suite where there was a ginaormous hot tub/jacuzzi thing.  The bathroom didn’t really have doors-where the door would have been it was a sliding wooden door and then there was a cut-out w/ another slider by the jacuzzi so that we could watch TV and such.  We hung out and releaxed for quite some time.  He brought his IPod and docking station and listened to some music-we actually even talked wedding talk which we do all the time.  At one point I almost jokingly said-ha, I almost thought you were goign to propose tonight haha–so glad I didn’t!

I was so releaxed I was almost asleep when he told me he had “one more surprise”.  I thought-this is it.  He went and got the champagne from Valentine’s Day that we never got to drink since I ended up in the ER and came back in the room.  I thought for sure, but no ring box.  I figured that, as always, I was just reading into things.

So he hands me my glass and I notice he’s holding his w/ both hands and I say to him “dorkus, you don’t hold a champagne glass with both hands like that, you hold it like this by the stem”.  Then I either said or thought (don’t really know which) “are you ok?” and he says:

“I have a question for you, will you marry me?”

It was then I realized that in his trembling hand he held the most perfect ring.  The most amazing ring from the most amazing man, what can I say.  I’ve been on cloud 10 ever since with a little drop when I went on Knot.com on Sat night and made the mistake of looking at the “to-do” list.  Really, they should ask first “when did you get engaged” and lock you out of the site until 72 hours has passed but whatever :)  I got off the site and back on my cloud.

Now, if the SEC can finalize their football schedule, maybe we can pick a date :)

When suddenly you feel “in control” of your life (or as in control as one can feel) and thing seem to fall in line?

Can’t talk now-must go make 17 phone calls before I leave.  But before I go I want to send a little cyber message of support to my friend who’s having a crappy day.  :)

Houseguests

The boy’s dad and stepmom should have landed a few mins ago at Reagan.  They’re here for the weekend and our fabulous new dining room table arrived last night.  The window the delivery co. gave me was from 4pm-8pm and they called at, you guessed it, 7:45pm.  Way to make the window people.

The house is, by far, cleaner than it’s ever been since the moment I stepped foot inside the new place back in Feb. and about had an anxiety attack when I realize the true layout of the apt.  Those who know me know I believe that whomever designed the place was smoking some cr.ack.

Anyway, I  meant to take pictures while it’s all nice and spiffy but I forgot.  So, I suppose I’ll have to wait until my family comes at Thanksgiving and it’s clean again.  Actually, truth be told I probably won’t even clean this much for them–the boy was vaccuming….again….at 11pm last night.

And so it goes.  Work is busy, but I’m doing ok…at least today which is what matters :)  With the exception of a VERY large VERY important event guide that is now officially corrupt-requiring me to save it 17 times a min and pray to the Micro.soft Gods that it doesn’t crash, all is well.  Speaking of which, I need to finish lunch and work on some more F&B grids.  PS-New Orleans is EX-PEN-SIVE!!!  Seriously, their prices put NYC at a run for their money!

I’m Stuck “ON”

OMG, my brain, it’s stuck.  My brain is stuck in the On position.  I’m going to die.  I’m going to die of overthinking.Â
